November in ManchesterNovember in Manchester was an innovative project which followed the fictional tale of two flawed lovers - as well as six of their friends - through various social media channels. The story, which progressed through Twitter, WordPress, YouTube and Flickr, aimed to explore the ways social media could be used as a medium for fiction. Characters tweeted about their daily lives and blogged about their feelings. The tale was told throughout this social medium. The project played out in real time and saw the characters attend a variety of real-world events. They live-blogged from firework displays and tweeted from art exhibitions. Throughout the month, characters interacted with the readers; sharing their thoughts and feelings with whomever would listen. Their blogs and tweets prompted advice, empathy and anger with readers often offering them support and guidance. November in Manchester also explored the ways social media could be used for crowdsourcing. Readers were asked to submit videos, photographs and anecdotes for the tale; these were used in the story as the tale progressed.
